The Masterworks Chorale, Carol Grey, Music Director, will perform its fall concert, And the Glory of the Lord, on Sunday afternoon, December 13^th, 4pm, at Christ Lutheran Church, 7240 Walnut Street, Upper Darby, PA. Featured will be Haydn’s Missa Sancti Nicolai (St. Nicholas Mass) and excerpts from Part I of Handel’s Messiah. Also included will be The Many Moods of Christmas – Suite One by Robert Shaw and Robert Russell Bennett, plus an audience sing-along.

The Masterworks Chorale is a non-profit organization with approximately 25 singers, located in Havertown, PA. The chorale is dedicated to the performance of quality choral music, covering a wide range of periods, styles and languages. The performance in a professional manner of 'masterworks' consisting of music written by the great composers of history as well as works by contemporary composers is a goal of The Masterworks Chorale. In addition, the chorale performs various octavos, madrigals, folk songs, spirituals, and music for the holiday season.

Photography by the late Karl P. Slingluff portrays another side of war. An avid photographer, Karl was drafted to the Korean War. This retrospective of photos shows us a glimpse of history that isn't usually seen. Karl Slingluff shot thousands of slides while in Korea, which preserved his photos making this show possible. Jonathan and Leigh Slingluff, owners of The Slingluff Gallery, have selected photos that show the talent of Karl. In Karl’s memory, The Slingluff Gallery is donating a percentage of all sales to Williamson Free School for Mechanical Trades in Media, PA, where he attended. The opening reception for this show is on December 5, 2009 from 6-9p and runs until December 27^th.

Mayor Michael Nutter is a lifetime Philadelphian, with an accomplished career of public service, business and financial administration. Mayor Michael Nutter served as a City Councilman for nearly 15 years representing Philadelphia’s 4th District – on of the city’s largest. He also served as Democratic Ward Leader of the 52^nd Ward since 1990.

During his time in Council, Mayor Michael Nutter worked to lower taxes for Philadelphians. He engineered groundbreaking ethics reform legislation, and led efforts to pass a citywide smoking ban, among countless economic and legislative measures to improve the quality of life for people and businesses in the 4^th District and citywide.

In 2006, he resigned his City Council seat to run in Philadelphia’s mayoral election. He was overwhelmingly elected Mayor of the City of Philadelphia in 2007 and was sworn in as the 98^th Mayor of Philadelphia in January, 2008.

This introductory workshop combines lecture and hands-on exercises to provide a basic understanding of sandtray play therapy and how to incorporate it into your practice. Sandplay is an expressive and valuable medium in working with children, families, couples and individuals. Through the creation of a sandtray, one can delve deeper into what is troubling them and facilitate change in the process. Includes:

· Brief history of Sandtray play therapy

· Arrangement of miniatures/meanings

· Conducting and processing a sandtray session

· Uses for assessment and direct intervention

Facilitator: Tammi Van Hollander, LCSW is a Registered Play Therapist and trained with Family & Play Therapy Center in Phila. She presents multiple workshops on play therapy and uses sandplay with children, teens, families and adults. Tammi currently practices at the Center for Psychological Services in Ardmore, PA.

Cantores, Carol Grey, director, will present a concert titled Music of the Four Seasons – Madrigals to Vocal Jazz, on Sunday afternoon, November 22^nd, 2009, at 4:00pm. The performance will take place at the Church of the Redeemer, 145 West Springfield Road, Springfield (Delaware County), PA. A Free will offering will be taken to benefit local charities.

Cantores is a vocal ensemble specializing in primarily a cappella choral music from the 15^th through 21^st centuries. The ensemble was formed about eight years ago under the leadership of Peter Sipple. Carol Grey took over as director in 2009 after sharing the leadership role for three years. We are a group of friends who love to sing. We meet in the homes of two of our members, making about equal amounts of music and fun. Our repertoire is drawn from madrigals, anthems, love songs, folk songs, spirituals, octavos, and occasional popular music in settings for two to eight voice parts.

This year’s program features Music of the Four Seasons. Previous performances have included A Celebration of Love, madrigals to vocal jazz; A Celebration of Psalms, psalm settings from Germany, Italy, Great Britain and the Americas; From Dusk to Dawn with selections describing things that transpire during the night. Other programs have included a celebration of folk songs of Brahms, Vaughan Williams, Gustav Holst, and others; the first set of Brahms’ Liebeslieder Walzer, accompanied by one piano for four hands; and music of the Renaissance, a period when music making for the voice reached an apex that may never again be matched.

The renowned 23-member African Children's Choir will make its third appearance at Derry Presbyterian Church in a concert featuring well-loved children’s songs, traditional African songs and dances, and contemporary tunes.

No admission will be charged; a free-will offering will be taken to help provide education, care and emergency relief for more than 7,000 children in Uganda, Rwanda, Nigeria, Ghana, Southern Sudan, Kenya and South Africa. Handicapped parking and an elevator are available.

The Choir has been working with the most vulnerable children in Africa for 25 years, raising awareness of the plight of Africa’s orphaned and abandoned, but also showing the beauty, dignity and potential of each African child. They are a voice for the millions of children suffering in Africa.

The African Children's Choir has appeared in thousands of concerts around the world, including concerts at the Pentagon, the United Nations and on Capitol Hill. They have been featured on popular television broadcasts such as “Jay Leno” “Good Morning America”, “Ellen”, and “American Idol”. They have also performed alongside a number of well known artists and musicians including the National Symphony Orchestra of Belgium, Wyclef Jean, Bobby McFerrin, Mariah Carey, Chantal Kreviazuk, and Josh Groban to name only a few, and in venues such as Royal Albert Hall and Madison Square Garden. The Choir has had the privilege of performing at Live8 in London, and can be heard on the soundtracks for Warner Bros. “Blood Diamond” and the documentary “Running the Sahara.”
